This i would say is the hardest and most time consuming part of beginning your lifestyle change, Having to weigh and calculate your food and inputting data. ( don’t worry there is an app that will do your calculations for you) – (see below).

Learning about portion control in my opinion is a must, please read my Portion Distortion blog, it is quite and eye opener.


Do not give up at the first hurdle because it looks like too much work, all the weighing and measuring will become second nature to you and you will be able to wizz through it in no time and become a pro.

I recommended using the My Fitness Pal app on your phone, it calculates all of your daily needs, has a library of 1000’s of foods already listed and you are able to add your own foods to it using the simple bar code scanner, you are able to track your weight and exercise and make informed food choices.
https://www.facebook.com/myfitnesspal/ Its free to use and and is available to download in the App Store or on Google Play. It really has made such a difference to me and will to you to, the app also has other apps to download like Map My Run and Map My Walk and others.

Invest in a pair of digital scales that measure in different weights, i.e grams, fluid ounces etc. these will also become your new friend in the kitchen, I have brought 2 different scales, a flat one for say if i’m only measuring a couple of items like a piece of fruit or some mange tout or just need a quick weight, and my bowl scales for measuring out things like cottage cheese, yogurt or peas um i had a few peas run away on the flat scales lol, that was until i decided to put a bowl on the flat scales, but then it was taking up more time either measuring the bowl or resetting the scales so hence the following week i popped out and brought some bowl scales etc, both sets were brought in Lidl and were relativity cheap.

Another god send is the Carbs and Cals book, it has an array of photographs listing 100’s of foods with the macros, perfect especially if you have high blood sugar or diabetes.
