Are you doing a calorie controlled diet?, do you need to weigh and measure everything?

Here i would like to show you some of the items that i have found invaluable in helping me to keep track of what i am eating.

Firstly download the free My Fitness Pal app to your phone, it will help you to calculate your portions, update your weight, and reward you with certificates along the way It’s very easy to use, you simply scan the barcode on your food wrapper, click on the serving size to change the weight value and number of servings that you are having, for ease i use grams. Take advantage of the free 30 day trial, it really helped me to get a kick start, the app is totally free to use the basic settings, this works just fine for me.

Purchase a set of kitchen weighing scales, I already had a metric pair but as i was wanting to weigh foods in grams and accurately, I purchased a pair of digital scales, these can be found very cheaply just shop around, mine measure in ounces, grams, fluid ozs, pounds and mils, the pink ones were from lidl and were approx £5 in the reduced section if i remember correctly, the only problem i have with them is the battery running out, as they are very loved and fed very well each day.

After seeing a dietitian she told me about a book, which has proved invaluable, its not only perfect for diabetics but for anyone on a weight loss program, it gives you the nutritional value of hundreds of foods, in text and pictures, allowing you to make informed choices. I strongly advise shopping around for this book, as online i found it in multiple shops with very different prices some shops were even +£10..

The next thing i would suggest is Measuring spoons and cups, i have never used the measuring cups, my daughter uses them as she prefers to measure in cup sizes, ( the myfitnesspal app does have measurements in cup sizes). I use the spoons a lot for liquids like soy sauce, honey, ketchup etc, I can’t tell you how much they are as i got them in christmas crackers, i’m guessing santa knew i would be needing them soon lol.
